In addition to the media, several former NFL players, trainers, and coaches have been invited to speak with Charlotte-area school principals and coaches on the importance of recognizing the symptoms and severity of sports-related head trauma.
Those invited will be served light refreshments and given a tour of the new facility by Medical Athletics’ doctors and staff members.
“We have plans for rapid expansion to a number of other cities throughout the South East, but knew that Charlotte would be a perfect market to launch our unique business,” says Dr. John Hamilton, Chief Neurosurgeon with Medical Athletics. “The staff and I are very excited about working with school officials, parents and the community to help ensure our kids who play sports are being taken care of.”
In the United States, it is estimated over 300,000 sports-related concussions occur annually and they are the second-most frequently occurring injury in both football and women’s soccer. Concussion injuries have also been gaining more and more attention in the world of professional sports, from football to soccer to NASCAR and beyond. Researchers, scientists and medical doctors have been studying the long-term health effects of both mild and severe head injuries for decades. Medical Athletics is at the forefront of this work, changing the way society thinks about concussions with their initial evaluation stage and cutting-edge rehabilitation technologies.
