Rodgers appreciated the 25 year old Lucas whole heartedly and said he performed beyond his expectations. Rodgers said, “I have to say, I’ve only been in the job a short period of time and when I first arrived everyone told me how special Lucas was as a player and a character, and in reality he’s been even better than that when I’ve met him.”
He further added, “The injury he had, it is normally nine months before you can get back so he’s is back two months early and you only do that with sheer determination and hard work.”

He also said, “He is the ultimate professional and he is going to be a brilliant player for me in my career here at Liverpool and I’m looking forward to seeing him fully fit. I know every day of his life he is fighting hard to get there, and not only is he a top footballer but a great person.”

Lucas is quite confident about the rediscovery of form which earned him the status of club’s player of the year in 2011.

Lucas said, “It’s been a long seven months for me in recovery, but I’m feeling well, better and recharged. I’m getting my confidence back and pre-season will be an important step. I’ve missed wearing the Liverpool shirt.”

He further added, “At the beginning, the time of the recovery was nine months but luckily I could come back a bit earlier by working with the physio and doctors who helped me. I had a target in my head to be available for pre-season, and thankfully I’m available now. But it is still a new step every day. I’m not worried because I think I will get to the level I was before and I can’t rush myself. I just want to improve every day. I was playing well (before the injury) but injuries come and go and now I must be patient and work to get that level back as quickly as possible.”
