3Some Games, Inc. A Startup Entrepreneur Uses Crowd Sourcing to “Kickstart” New Business

Game fans can help Heroes of Metro City by 3Some Games, Inc. become a reality. Thousands raised on Kickstarter.com in the first 24 hours.

PRLog - Jul. 22, 2012 - BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Like many startup companies, 3Some Games, Inc. was long on ideas, but short on capital.  In order to start mass production on “Heroes of Metro City,” which is described as a board game for comic book fans, the company needed to raise five digits worth of funds.

“In today’s lending climate, that is hard to do for a new company that has not established much credit,” says company founder James H. Waller.  So Waller, an attorney with a background in online marketing, turned to the Internet to help get his project off of the ground.  “Kickstarter is saving us,” Waller said.  “We wouldn’t be able to make it work any other way.”

Kickstarter.com (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/3some/heroes-of-metro-city-a-super-powered-deck-building) is a crowd-sourcing fundraising website where entrepreneurs with creative ideas are able to make their pitch directly to the fans and consumers of their products.  These fans, called “Project Backers” pledge to donate any amount of money, from one dollar to thousands, to help get the creative project made.  The project creator sets a fundraising goal, which must be reached within a certain timeframe.  None of the backers pay anything unless the project is successfully fully funded.

Early Success
According to Waller, the first day of the project eased a lot of the company’s fears.  “We raised over 5% of the goal within the first 24 hours.  It reassured us that game-players and comic book fans care about our game and want to see it made.  These backers then go onto Facebook and Twitter to get their friends to help contribute to the project as well.  Good will is viral.”
