July 22, 2012 - PRLog -- Wellington FL.  Mission Critical’s new Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) Prevention video addresses UTI infections acquired in the home and in a healthcare setting. The educational DVD includes detailed prevention information in both English and Spanish, a hand hygiene demonstration, urinary catheter best practices for healthcare professionals and several self catheterization instructional animations.

The science tells us that 50% of all women will experience a UTI in their lifetime and once a women contracts her first infection, there is an 80% chance of getting a second UTI. The number of urinary tract infection contracted in the home each year is staggering but these infection numbers can be reduced through proper hygiene and prevention education. Decreasing infections translates into reduced antibiotic use, less pain and suffering, improved productivity and fewer doctor visits.

In the healthcare setting catheter acquired UTIs account for approximately 40 percent of all Hospital Acquired Infections. Worse yet, it is estimated that over half of urinary catheters are used unnecessarily and these urinary drainage systems are often reservoirs for dangerous multi-drug resistant bacteria such as MRSA. Healthcare acquired UTIs cost the U.S. healthcare system billions annually and have a surprisingly high fatality rate. Mission Critical Health found the global impact and fatality rates of UTIs too serious to ignore. “These new educational videos are driving attention to this global problem and delivering important prevention information”, says David Holden, Executive Producer for Mission Critical Health.

Mission Critical Health’s 30 minute UTI prevention TV program will be broadcast nationwide on July 31st at 7:30pm EST (4:30 PST) and August 5th at 3:30pm EST (12:30pm PST) on the Dish Network, Direct TV and AT&T U-verse as well as regional broadcasts on networks such as Comcast and Time Warner, check your local listings for more details.
