Designed specifically for project management, the PMP credential focuses on developing process for the five major project management Process Groups: (1) initiating, (2) planning, (3) executing, (4) monitoring and control, and (5) closing. Mapped to these five process groups are nine project management Knowledge Areas: (1) Project Integration Management, (2) Project Scope Management, (3) Project Time Management, (4) Project Cost Management, (5) Project Quality Management, (6) Project Human Resource Management, (7) Project Communications Management, (8) Project Risk Management, and (9) Project Procurement Management.
PMI certification eligibility requires candidates to have a bachelor’s degree, or global equivalent, along with a minimum of 36-months of unique non-overlapping professional project management experience, 4,500 hours leading and directing project tasks, and 35 hours of formal project management education. If eligible, a candidate must pass a timed 200-question exam. Once PMP certification is attained, the cert has a three-year expiration cycle. To stay current, 60 Professional Development Units (PDUs) must be accumulated over the three-year cycle, ranging from activities such as researching, authoring articles, speaking on project management-related topics, or being engaged in project management full-time.

CSA consultant Joe Giguere earned his PMP in 2010 and continues his project management edification by teaching courses at PMI San Diego, attending PM meetings, and supporting his client as the resident expert for several project management areas. Mr. Giguere has also assisted several of his colleagues in pursuing their PMP certification by, tutoring them on the Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBOK) guide, assisting in test strategies, and working with them through the certification process.

Ellen holds an MBA and MA in Government Studies from The Johns Hopkins University. She is adding her PMP certification to her Certified Federal Contracts Manager (CFCM).
Jason Cox, Consultant, MBA, ITIL v3, PMP -
Jason is a 6-year Navy veteran and joined CSA in 2009. Mr. Cox has over 12 years professional experience, including five years in IT management focused on audit controls, process improvement, operation administration, application support, and project management. He has managed numerous IT projects in the private sector prior to joining CSA. He has worked numerous projects that have required specialized experience in programming languages, network administration, and research and development. Mr. Cox’s qualifications also include an MBA from DeVry University and an Office of Government Commerce (OGC) ITIL v3 Certification.
