Because of the growing number of emotionally and mentally ill persons, IMU has constantly improved their curriculum in order to provide the best for their students. Training along with modules are provided in order to increase knowledge in Psychology and to better their skills in counseling. The aim of the Psychology department is to defeat mental illness and to correct behavior by applying theories and therapies needed by a client or individual.
Alexius Cheang Weng Onn, a lecturer and the program coordinator at IMU mentioned that “Psychology at IMU is taught through lectures, seminars, group discussions and practical projects carried out inside and outside the laboratories to enable students to gain personal experience.”
The course is still open to many changes to it is a constantly growing course with more mental illness and problems to study on. The good thing about Psychology is that it is open to changes in its own field. Due to the environmental situations which could be an underlying factor of behavioral change, it is just necessary that Psychologists open their minds to newly developed illness.
If a student would want to pursue this degree, it would become beneficial to him for he or she will be able to land various careers in different settings like educational, clinical, guidance and industrial. These four settings are the core of this study. Educational for students, clinical studies for mentally ill, guidance for those who need counseling and industrial for handling human resources and relations.
Psychology may just be a regular field to others but at IMU, they make it more than that. IF you would like to know more about their program you could visit their Psychology Department (http://www.imu.edu.my).
