The American College of Lifestyle Medicine has announced details for its 2012 conference entitled "Treating the Cause". This premier event will educate attendees on the practice of treating the cause of a disease through lifestyle medicine.

July 19, 2012 - PRLog -- PORTLAND, Oregon – The American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) will hold its 2012 conference on September 30-October 3, 2012, in Englewood, Colorado. The conference, entitled “Treating the Cause”, will be the premier professional Lifestyle Medicine event of 2012 and is a combined Clinical Conference (9/30/12-10/2/12) and optional Practice Management Workshop (10/3/12).

“Lifestyle Medicine 2012 is the leading edge training for the future of outcomes based healthcare,” said Marc Braman, MD/MPH, Executive Director / Past President, ACLM.

Participants can join physicians and other health care professionals who are innovators in the field of lifestyle medicine to become educated in the practice of “treat the cause” healthcare. ACLM has convened the best national and international experts with tangible knowledge and systems for the highest quality, evidenced-based Lifestyle Medicine services.

“Professional education in Lifestyle Medicine is not about learning how to be more vehement in telling Mrs. Smith to lose weight,” said Braman, “It is about fundamentally changing ones approach to patient care to "treat the cause" instead of just trying to slow the consequences with pills and procedures”.

Lifestyle Medicine is the use of lifestyle interventions such as nutrition, exercise, stress management, smoking cessation and a variety of other non-drug modalities in the treatment and management of disease. A growing body of scientific evidence has demonstrated that lifestyle medicine should be the foundation of treatment for chronic disease.  It can be as effective as medication, but without the risks and unwanted side-effects.

The ACLM Lifestyle Medicine 2012 conference, “Treating the Cause” will be held at the Inverness Hotel and Conference Center in Englewood, Colorado on September 30-October 3, 2012.

A list of speakers and topics, as well as registration information can be found on the event Web site at www.lifestylemedicine.org/LM2012.

The American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) is the first national specialty society for clinicians emphasizing the use of lifestyle interventions in the treatment and management of disease. With members across the United States and international membership growing rapidly, ACLM answers the need for quality education, the development of formal certification for the practice of clinical Lifestyle Medicine, and the necessary support and advocacy functions for this new field. Members include primary care physicians, specialists, researchers, professors, students, public spokespersons, hospital administrators, nutritionists and public health professionals.
