One of the tips Mike offers is to keep the condenser coils on the back of the refrigerator clean. This includes brushing the coils and vacuuming up the lint and loose material. Of course, if you have an extra refrigerator or a standalone freezer, that should get the same cleaning regiment.
If you have specialty cooling equipment, such as a beer keg cooler, a wine storage unit, an ice maker unit, these also have condenser coils that need to be cleaned. If they have specific cleaning instructions, they should be followed, but the desired end result is the same, clean coils for efficient heat transfer.
Other items, not normally thought of as appliances that have coils to be cleaned are a window air conditioning unit, a central air conditioning unit, and dehumidifier unit. As always, if they came with specific cleaning instructions, follow them. A unit with a clean condenser coil will last longer and operate more efficiently.
