Map Maker allows simple integration of map information from rich content sources around the world including Twitter, EventBrite, WikiPedia, Meetup, GroupOn, InstaGram, Meetup, SeeClickFix, EPA, YouTube, Yelp, CitiGrid, Active.com, Ticket Network, Conference Hound and others.
This new service was developed with citizen journalism and bloggers in mind. Custom maps are helpful tools in telling a local, national or international story. Map Maker quickly adds location icons that tie directly to a topic. For instance, a blog on local events could have a custom pin for every mention, with each pin displaying a short description of the featured event, plus carry other event listings from Meetup, EventBrite, and Brown Paper Tickets.
Spencer Nassar, CEO of GatheringPoint, says, “There are hundreds of applications for our new service when you think of all the posts and longer stories that could use a map. Local residents, as well as travelers, benefit from map-based information to access and share. GatheringPoint helps fill those needs with easy-to-add custom maps.“
In addition to Map Maker for individuals, GatheringPoint has increased mapping, social media and other usage for business partners including ConferenceHound.com (http://www.conferencehound.com) and The Active Times (http://theactivetimes.com).
