We discussed earlier in the week about Maintenance Departments, and how they can sometimes be a conflict of interest. In this blog post we will discuss kickbacks in the Property Management Industry.

Kickbacks can show their heads in many different ways.  One way could be someone in the management company owning a stake in one of the vendors that is used, such as a landscaping company, or plumbing contractor or any of the other vendors used.  Often times this can be overlooked by the customer since sometimes it is not disclosed by the Management Company.

As a result of this ownership, business is now being driven to a specific vendor based on some qualifications other than what is best for the customer.  Typically when choosing a vendor there are many variables that come into play including, price, service, follow up, experience and others.  With the types of deals mentioned above, personal self interest becomes the leading qualifier often times.
