While sales in certain markets are steadily declining, studies show that apparel and fashion items account for approximately $31 billion in online sales alone. The popularity of retail fashion is shooting skyward, as seen this year in FashionCampNYC, which is starting its fifth season with their biggest class ever. As stores like Daffy’s are closing their doors for good, this determined generation is imagining the next big retail brand. The Founder and Director of FashionCampNYC Gordon Josey says, “We’re seeing more kids than ever before expressing an interest in the business end of fashion – trend tracking, social media, retail management, etc. They understand that one doesn’t need to be a designer to be a fashion success.” During the one-week program, the campers will:
• Create and come up with a marketing strategy for their own brands
• Learn how social media is changing the retail fashion industry
• Visit the Prada exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art
Josey continues, “The core of FashionCampNYC is that campers are able to meet and network with fashion professionals from visionary companies like Coach, Victoria’s Secret, Tommy Hilfiger, Marc Jacobs, Cole Haan and American Eagle. This experience is unparalleled to any other for teens interested in a career in retail fashion!”
