E-Z Movers, Inc. reports: movers staying home

July 17, 2012 - PRLog -- The trend can be seen throughout the country by multiple movers. According to a recent study published by Movers.com, 43 percent of all moves nationwide are local moves, up from 29 percent in 2005.

The U.S. Census reports similar findings. Their 2010 “Lifetime mobility in the United States” report concludes that 58.8 percent of all Americans are currently living in the state in which they were born. Inter-state and cross-country moves are become fewer and fewer as Americans choose to stay close to home.

With a shrunken economy, and little to no job prospects, people are choosing not to take on a cross-country move. Additional stresses, such as family commitments, the high cost of cross-country moves, and the inability for some families to sell their homes, are shortening moves to the average of just 12 miles in 2011, according to the National Association of Realtors Survey of Homebuyers and Sellers.

Moving companies in Naperville, Chicago, Minneapolis, and throughout the country are feeling the difference. With the average cost of inter-state moves significantly higher than local moves, moving services are being forced to hustle to make up the difference.
