In association with Boulting Group PLC, PROjEN were engaged to deliver a key element of a large project for Diaego, the world's leading premium drinks business, at its Ogba brewery in Lagos, Nigeria.
The project entailed providing utilities to a new multi-million pound filling and packaging line and PROjEN was required to carry out site surveys of existing utilities and structures. The company, which is based in Preston Brook near Runcorn in Cheshire, had to create a detailed design of the new utilities pipework including the provision of general arrangement drawings, a stress analysis package and fabrication isometrics.
The laser survey data in the form of a 3D point cloud was used as the basis for the design of the new utilities pipework which had to be routed through congested existing pipe racks. This ensured a clash free installation of 1.5 kilometres of pipe work with no on-site modifications, thereby reducing cost and any potential delays.
Martin Seabrook from PROjEN, said: “We are very pleased with the results provided by our innovative laser scanning capability and the help we have given to this important project. This sort of work would have taken around six weeks if we’d used traditional methods but we were able to collect more than two gigabytes of data in one week which is a huge amount of data in surveying terms. This provided the client with an efficient and cost effective solution that caused minimal disruption to their normal functions.
“The laser survey, which was carried out using a Leica Geosystems HDS Scanstation C10 laser scanner, also provided increased accuracy compared to other methods.”
