July 15, 2012 - PRLog -- The grant was offered to new 501c3 rescue organizations who are still trying to establish a base of donors and design fundraising events.  Our goal for this grant was to extend our rescue efforts to care for and feed 12 horses.  Felicia-Rose, Stubborn Streak, Cold Prince and the most recent abandoned ex-racehorse mare were all rescued as a result of our receiving this grant from the ASPCA.

Felicia-Rose is probably the most appreciative.  She was 400 lbs underweight when we rescued her from going to auction.  She has gained at least 150 lbs in 6 weeks … because she eats 7 flakes a day!  Our newest rescued abandoned mare is underweight but will also need specialized nutrition to overcome neglect of her hooves, coat, and muscles.  Stubborn Streak and Cold Prince are just happy eating and filling their bellies!

Our herd is now up to 14 horses.  Two horses are trained and ready to find new homes (Star and Majestic Kiss).  Three are sound and healthy and ready for training (Janzig Affair, Tyger Top, and Cisco).

We want to thank the ASPCA and Jacque Schultz, Senior Director of the ASPCA Equine Fund, for assisting us in rehabbing and transitioning these ex-racehorses for new adoptive homes.
