Growing up adopted, James describes his feelings of alienation, culminating in the belief that he is an alien. James battles obsessive-compulsive disorder and his own sexuality, resulting in alcoholism and drug abuse later in his life. Finally, James is presented with the greatest challenge of his life, and in the throes of his waning sanity, he discovers his deep humanity.
