Independent wine merchant puts the “fun” back into wine

The Smiling Grape Company, an independent wine merchant based in St Neots, Cambridgeshire is continuing its success of bringing the “fun factor” to wine.

July 13, 2012 - PRLog -- The Smiling Grape Company matches wines in their retail shop with everything you can imagine (food, celebrities, politicians, music, movies, TV shows).  The wine company has also created a selection of successful  entertaining wine brands from For Your Pies Only Merlot to movie themed wines such as Night of the Living Red.  The company recently sourced a unique red wine from South Africa that tastes of coffee called the Cappuccino Pinotage which has begun to enthral wine and coffee lovers alike.

Owner Matt Ellis explains: "By making wine fun we are able to engage better with people who might want to buy our wines.  We’ve developed a style of marketing which is essential in today’s tough economic times, by successfully making wine “cool, compelling and enjoyable”.  We help break down the barriers of wine which can be quite confusing for the consumer.  Other wine shops’ shelf talkers can go into great detail about the wine’s barrel toast levels or yields in the vineyards but example of our tasting notes include: "More exposed fruit than at a Wonderbra convention", "The Kate Moss of wines: beautiful, elegant and in desperate need of some food" or how about the "John Prescott tasting note: Thunderous, weighty and packs a good punch".”

The thriving wine business is also creating a new range of wines including the cricketing themed “Saved by the Box” Shiraz from Australia.
