The Skyrise Greenery Awards, initiated and organised by the Greening Landscape and Tree Management Section of the Development Bureau, aim to promote the development of quality skyrise greening, and to give recognition to exemplary projects that showcase the integration of skyrise greenery into the built environment of Hong Kong. Skyrise greening is a new concept of greenery in urban landscaping encompassing all greening at the buildings or other structures beyond the ground level, including roof greening, vertical greening, sky gardens, terrace planting, etc. Skyrise greening provides environmental benefits as well as enhances aesthetic quality of the urban environment.
'These recognitions underscore the Group’s continuous efforts to incorporate and promote sustainable green features that contribute to the environment,’
Citywalk is the first and the largest green shopping mall in Hong Kong to feature Vertical Green. Plants growing on the Vertical Garden are natural heat insulators which can reduce ambient temperatures, provide thermal insulation, acoustical control and purify the air. With its 11 distinctive green features and designs, Citywalk has been rated Platinum by the HK-BEAM Society. Greenery in Citywalk has a significant impact on property development and it also proves to be sustainable up until today since its completion in 2007. The Group has subsequently completed over 15 Vertical Green systems.
18 Kowloon East, a Grade A commercial project developed by Sino Land and designed by Aedas, features mega green walls inside the lobby and at the car park entrance. Additionally, the extensive planters on car park floors offer visual greening effect to the neighbourhood and improve the air quality within the car park.
'On the heels of Citywalk, we have introduced Vertical Green to other residential and commercial projects; examples include The Palazzo, Lake Silver, Exchange Tower, Skyline Tower, The Hennessy and The Hermitage, to name a few. We are glad to note that the carefully planned landscaping and Vertical Green at our projects are making a positive difference on the community,' adds Mr Yu.
'We are honoured by the recognitions bestowed upon us, and we shall take these as a positive challenge for even more sustainable designs for future projects,' concludes Mr Yu.
