Heathfield photographer wins three awards

July 11, 2012 - PRLog -- Heathfield-based Sarah Tate, who specialises in photographing children, families and pregnant ladies, was thrilled to win three categories and a merit in the Master Photographers’ Association South East Awards.

Sarah won the Children’s Portraiture, Wedding Photojournalism and the Pictorial and Fine Art categories and Merit in the Contemporary Portraiture category. Her success follows on from a string of awards in 2011.

She said: “I can’t quite believe I won again after my success last year as the competition was really tough again and I was competing against the most highly qualified and experienced photographers in the South East. The awards are very important to me as they prove to clients that you are skilled and that your work is of very high quality.”

The competition was judged by renowned industry professionals Martin Grahame-Dunn FMPA, FRSA, Hon FMPA, QEP, Hon Master Photo-dk and Kevin Pengelly FMPA, DipPP, FBIPP who between them have experience covering many aspects of professional photography. The competition was particularly strong this year with a few of the categories not being awarded winners by the judges as they felt the entries were not of an appropriate level.

Noted photographer and judge of the awards, Martin Grahame had this to say about Sarah’s work: "There were a number of outstanding images at the MPA's South East Region's Annual Awards and one or two clearly stood out from the rest. Sarah's images that involved pregnant ladies using cloth and textures were an innovative approach to a genre that is so easy to shoot in the most ordinary of ways. The lighting, composition and presentation was exceptional and as a judge I felt happy to have given due recognition for her achievements.  The image in the Wedding Photojournalism category hit the mark perfectly. A great, clear story, perfectly exposed, beautifully composed and delightfully presented. Sarah should be exceptionally proud of her achievements in such a tough competition."

Sarah also gained merits in the 2009 national MPA awards for her portrait work and in 2010 received an MPA Award of Excellence for portraits. In 2011 she won awards for a children’s portrait and a stunning photograph of a pregnant woman with her child as well as merits for her shots of a family and their new-born baby and a wedding photograph.

Established in 1952 and with over 1,700 members, the Master Photographers’ Association is the United Kingdom's only organisation for full-time, qualified and professional photographers.
