Panel discussion
July 22, Sunday, 2-4pm
Building A - Main Gallery

In conjunction with Angels Gate Cultural Center's exhibition cycle, "Into the Wilderness: The Journey Within," art historian, critic and curator Betty Ann Brown will moderate a discussion on expedition and exploration with exhibition artists Nicole Antebi, Marie Cenkner, Danielle Eubank, J.J. L'Heureux and Meg Madison. Eubank and L'Heureux travel to the far reaches of time and space - Eubank is the expedition artist on a boat constructed on a 600 BCE Phoenician model, voyaging throughout the Mediterranean and around the tip of Africa; L'Heureux has visited Antarctica 11 times and most recently traveled to Kamchatka in search of the endangered Spoon-billed Sandpiper. Antebi visits the local past, studying the thinking of historic California's water wizards and moguls, while Cenkner and Madison observe the contemporary urban landscape with discriminating insight into neighborhood contrasts and the unnoticed plight of birds and other creatures.
