Palmer Gulch Resort in Hill City SD is open despite the recent wildfires and the resort continues to be a popular Black Hills destination for many South Dakota visitors.
Gwyn Wathen, Director of Lodging, Group Sales and Special Events at Palmer Gulch, is confident that the resort will maintain its appeal in spite of the recent flames.
“The crews have fully contained the wildfires closest to us and we feel confident that our season will be successful,”
Wildfires have burned thousands of acres in the Black Hills including 400 acres between Newcastle, Wyo. and Custer, S.D., 5 acres near Beulah, Wyo., and almost 9,000 acres northeast of Edgemont. To protect the historic structures in the Black Hills, crews have effectively burned out areas that could be seared from the local wildfires. With almost 450 people working the fire, removing debris, and strengthening containment lines, the Black Hills is on its way to restoration.
Palmer Gulch Resort is a family-friendly vacation destination in the Black Hills. As the closest resort to Mount Rushmore National Memorial, this Rapid City destination is also only a short distance from many other attractions such as Custer State Park, Crazy Horse Memorial, Wind Cave National Park and various lakes and trails of the Black Hills.
Activities, camping and lodging await visitors of South Dakota as they enter the beautiful resort, which is located at the foot of Harney Peak. Encompassing a 62 bedroom lodge, 6 first-class resort cabins, 30 mountain cabins, and a KOA campground with hundreds of sites, Palmer Gulch Resort is perfect for that family vacation destination, group event, reunion or even a wedding.
“We have guests from around the country come to stay with us, especially during the summer season when the Black Hills are visited the most,” says Wathen. “We are planning for the rest of our summer months to be just as hectic, energized, and full of new faces.”
In addition to plenty of places to stay at the Black Hills resort, all the activities needed to make a vacation or event memorable are on-site or conveniently located nearby. Featuring a 180-foot waterslide, two heated pools, a guided horse trail ride, an authentic chuck wagon dinner and many more exciting activities, Palmer Gulch Resort has entertainment for the entire family.
