Participants attending the self defense class will discover how to use assertiveness and conflict resolution skills to prevent being targeted as an easy victim and to set clear cut boundaries with others. A few easy to learn physical techniques will be taught as well during the introductory class.
According to instructor Kathy Marlor, “Most people don’t realize it, but predators size-up their victims by watching their body language as well as by approaching them to ask a question or to say something slightly inappropriate to see how they react. Reacting passively, or getting caught off-guard can give them the go ahead and encourage them to pursue their next test or agenda. Learning how to behave assertively and how to tactfully set assertive boundaries with others is a key to not having to physically defend yourself. Our introductory seminar will focus on those skills. Of course, we’ll also teach a few physical techniques that anyone can do….just in case.”
Immediately following the self defense event will a “Pole Jam” with the instructors and ladies of Impulse Pole Dance. Participants are welcome to stay and participate in the fun that includes light refreshments.
This event is a fundraiser for Poles for a Purpose who is hosting a series of events to donate money to “The Spring of Tampa Bay.”
