“There’s not as much hype about the Olympics in Israel as there is in, say, Australia, USA, and Canada,” said Wright Pilo. “We want to change that by making it easy for Israelis to show their support for their fellow citizens who have spent their entire lives preparing for this moment.”
Touching on the unique support that the State of Israel has from both expat Israelis and Jewish communities worldwide, Follow Team Israel Olympics 2012 hopes that the global Jewish community will find themselves singing Hatikvah along with the entire nation of Israel. With Israelis constantly being threatened by rocket attacks, nuclear weapons proliferation, and terrorism on her borders, Jewish solidarity with Israel is often called upon when her existence is threatened. Follow Team Israel Olympics 2012 gives Diaspora Jewry an opportunity to show their solidarity with Israel in times of peace. The group, which has no connection with the Israel Olympic Committee, has already connected with a number of athletes and has sent out updates to hundreds of Facebook and Twitter fans in the few short weeks of their operation. The founders have also organized round-the-clock coverage for all of Team Israel’s events and will be staging viewing parties so that all fans of Israel can participate in the fun.
As Israel’s sports, stars take their positions at the starting block they will be comforted to know that both Israelis and Diaspora Jews are cheering them on.
