PCAC Receives Grant from Community Foundation of Broward for the Creative Expressions Arts Program

July 7, 2012 - PRLog -- The Community Foundation of Broward has extended a grant in the amount of $75,000 to the Palms Community Action Coalition for the Creative Expressions Arts Program (CEAP) in Hallandale Beach. CEAP  commenced its first 12-week session on June 18th, 2012. The grant is part of the Community Foundation’s Art of Community initiative, which seeks to support bold and unique projects that will increase the sense of community of Broward residents while addressing issues of public concern.

CEAP offers a diversity of programs for youth and adults, including Theatre training; Recording Studio sessions; Video Production; Visual Arts; a quarterly outdoor Arts Festival as well as Parenting and Life Skills workshops. The CEAP program has been made possible by the partnering of private, non-profit groups and government agencies.

"The Creative Expressions Arts Program will help to foster the positive, forward-moving culture the Palms Community Action Coalition strives to accomplish," said Andrew Markoff, a PCAC volunteer coordinator. "The Community Foundation of Broward has partnered with the City of Hallandale Beach and its Community Redevelopment Agency as well as private, non-profit groups to offer an exciting diversity of programs for creative expression and a greater sense of community."

Also participating in CEAP are Hallandale High School TV Production, Youth Entertainment Studios of Norfolk, Virginia and the John Battle Theatre Ensemble. Together, these private and government programs are helping to provide the program's workshop and performance opportunities for youth and adults.

The first 12-week sessions began on June 18th with Theater and Video/Audio workshops for teens. Participants will also initiate recording sessions in September in the new Foster Park Community Center recording studio. In addition to 12-week sessions, CEAP will present a quarterly Arts in the Park Festival in the Palms community involving participants of all ages.

CEAP is currently providing two-hour workshop instruction in: Theatre; Video Production; Recording Studio; Life Skill Classes and a Parents Workshop.

“When people feel connected to their community, their satisfaction and engagement in it increases,” said Foundation manger of grants and initiatives, Nancy Rogan. “Through the Art of Community Challenge, we will foster the use of arts to improve residents’ connection to each other and the community we call Broward.”
