PRLog (Press Release) - Jul. 6, 2012 - “Grassi prepares for the August primary with a heart for the people”

Tacoma, WA—(July 6, 2012) – The campaign to elect Ken Grassi for County Council District 4, today announced an aggressive online campaign to support his bid.

“I am honored to serve the people of Pierce County if elected,” said Ken Grassi.  “As a local Pierce County business owner for 36 years, and the current Mayor of University Place, I understand how to bring people together for a common cause.  Since incorporation of University Place in 1995, I have been serving on the city council.  It helps to understand how government works, tempered with the needs of the community,” Grassi added.  Ken Grassi, 56, is the last remaining member of the original council seated since the inception of  University Place.

What makes Ken Grassi uncommon as a politician is his overarching belief —it’s all about the people, not a specific party and never a hidden agenda.  Grassi is also running against a friend of his and predicts the political campaign to set a new example of integrity and civility, taking the term public servant seriously.

Ken’s top three issues facing Pierce County today are Public Safety/Criminal Justice, Economic Development, and Transportation.  “Public safety and criminal justice will remain my highest priority should Pierce County face budget cuts if revenues fall short of projections, Grassi explained.”  “We need to work closely with the Port of Tacoma to help them remain a significant economic driver for Pierce County.  I believe we need to continue to fund the Hwy 167 extension, the expansion of the I-5 corridor at JBLM and work towards the completion of the East / West Highway” Grassi outlined.

Melanie Grassi, Ken’s daughter said, “It has never been about party lines for Dad. He doesn’t view himself as a Democrat or Republican but as public servant, serving the people first”.

Ken has done a lot of things during his long public service but one of the most rewarding was when he was the former Chairman of the Global Neighbor Project (AIDS relief for South Africa).  Ken, along with Tacoma/Pierce County citizens had initiated a community-to-community rescue effort with World Vision called the Global Neighbor Project.  This effort was dedicated to helping meet the special needs of orphaned and vulnerable children in Lesotho and the community of Sekameng where 30% of the population infected with HIV/AIDS. Sekameng received help in the form of safe water, education, medical care and more.

Ken Grassi has been married to his wife Kim for 36 years and has a daughter, Melanie.  He and his wife Kim own and operate Grassi Flowers and Gifts in Tacoma.  He has served 15 years on the Life Center Ministries Board of Directors, and serves on the Downtown Merchants Group.

Ken has a sincere desire to serve Pierce County and ensure county government is responsive, transparent, and honest.
