Sickle Cell Disease is an inherited blood disorder that affects over 100.000 Americans.
In the US there are over 70,000 individuals with Sickle Cell Disease and millions with sickle cell trait. SCDFOC is committed to increasing the public’s awareness; through educational seminars, community based workshops, educational activities, and other support programs.
The purpose of this event is to assist in raising money to fund the SCDFOC educational awareness programs, transportation services, healthy eating programs, and school assistance programs. Often a “forgotten disease”, the life expectancy for a person living with sickle cell is about forty years of age and there is currently no universal cure. Our goal is to provide continuous education about the disease, its management and it myriad of issues. Our strategy is to educate youth, young adults, parents, caregivers, family member, teachers and the community; by helping raise awareness about sickle Cell Disease.
