Celebrating the Torch Relay at the New Forest Centre

Come along to the New Forest Centre on Saturday 14 July to join in the Torch Relay celebrations.

July 4, 2012 - PRLog -- Children’s activities and refreshments will be available throughout the Torch Relay Family Reception from 11am-1pm to mark the launch of an open-art exhibition.

Budding artists, painters, photographers and sculptors were challenged by the National Park Authority and Forestry Commission to create innovative works of art using the colours gold, silver and bronze to celebrate this culturally significant year.

Along with a variety of photographs and artwork there will also be an opportunity to see the ‘New Forest Local Heroes’, a joint exhibition between the National Park Authority and New Forest District Council. Find out more about the young New Forest hopefuls whose dreams are to be part of the Olympics.
Hilary Marshall, New Forest Centre Manager, said: ‘The Torch Relay travelling through Lyndhurst is a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle and we wanted to mark the occasion.

‘The family reception is a chance to learn more about the New Forest through art and photography, find out about our budding New Forest athletes of the future and for children to join in a number of themed activities. Also, for one day only, entry to the New Forest Museum will be only £1.’

Both exhibitions will be on display at the New Forest Centre until Monday 3 September. The New Forest Centre is open from 10am to 5pm seven days a week. Find out more at www.newforestcentre.org.uk/exhibitions.

The Torch Relay will be starting at 10:11am on Bournemouth Road (A35), travel through Lyndhurst High Street, then turn into Gosport Lane, finishing at 10:16am. For more information about the Torch Relay route in the New Forest visit http://www.newforest.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=12246.
