Follow on Google News | World’s Largest Human Cannon: Wheaton Municipal Band Presents “Do It Yourself '1812 Overture'”On July 5, 2012, the Wheaton (Illinois) Municipal Band will involve audience participation by shouting "BOOM!" where cannon shots are normally heard during performances of Tchaikovsky’s "1812 Overture."
Peter I. Tchaikovsky’ The band’s announcer, Pete Friedmann, will guide the audience in making this the grandest Patriotic Celebration. The concert begins at 8:00 p.m. in Memorial Park, which is bounded by Union Avenue, Wheaton Avenue, Karlskoga Avenue and Hale Street. The Wheaton Municipal Band's annual patriotic concerts traditionally draw the largest crowds of the summer. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and bring a picnic dinner. The band's Dixieland Combo -- "The Dixie Cups" -- will entertain in the park beginning at 6:30 p.m. The concert also will feature other patriotic favorites, a salute to veterans of the United States Armed Services, and a tribute to local heroes -- Wheaton natives who have died in service to our country over the past eight years.
