Closer to home, Momondo also launched a Finnish-language site, http://fi.momondo.com, which it intends to make the preferred online travel comparison site in Finland.
TwendeTwende, which means: “Let’s go. Let’s go” in Swahili, is an English-language site that enables users in the region to search for travel across more than 700 online travel agencies (OTA’s) and airline websites as well as over 400,000 hotels worldwide -- including around 300 hotels, resorts, and lodges in East Africa alone -- to secure the best flight and hotel deals both in the region and beyond. The site also features destination articles, accommodation news, and travel deals. The Kenya-based site’s launch will be followed by travel search services for Uganda (co.ug domain) and Tanzania (co.tz domain) in the coming months.
Ms. Ann Gitao, Nation Media Group’s Marketing Director explained that it was good timing for them to launch the new travel search and information service. “Our consumer-facing websites now draw close to 50 million page views and five million unique users per month and Internet access and air travel has been improving significantly, in the past 18 months".
