July 3, 2012 - PRLog -- For the second consecutive year, SPORTS ‘N SPOKES, the sports and recreation magazine of the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA), has teamed up with UroMed’s nonprofit program Life After Spinal Cord Injury (LASCI) to encourage people with disabilities to “Get Out & Enjoy Life This Summer” in all 50 states.  Beginning July 30th, the SPORTS ‘N SPOKES website and UroMed’s blog site will feature a state-by-state listing of accessible vacation spots, outdoors programs, and other events.

“As a quadriplegic, I understand the role that personal independence combined with community support plays in achieving a full, successful life after spinal-cord injury,” LASCI founder Bert Burns, a C6-7 quadriplegic, says. “The best part of this program is that we are encouraging people with SCI to get out and enjoy life while giving them a list of ways they can do so more easily.  Having a place to start makes all the difference when moving beyond a life-changing injury.”

From July 30 to August 17, 2012, the S’NS and LASCI Facebook groups will share links to each of the featured accessible programs, places, and events, spotlighting one state per day on each social media page.  Viewers can post photos of related family vacations and weekend outings on the Facebook pages or in a photo gallery on the S’NS website.

In addition to daily prizes, three winners from the related photo contest will receive the Get Out, Enjoy Life Prize Pack and the grand prizes listed below.

The first place winner will receive a brand new Invacare Top End hand cycle courtesy of Invacare [http://www.topendwheelchair.com] and other prizes.

The second place winner will receive a Spinergy LX/SLX wheel and tire package courtesy of Eagle Sport Chairs [http://www.eaglesportschairs.com] and other prizes.
