Onslow Radiation Oncology Selected to Train Dosimetry Students

July 3, 2012 - PRLog -- Onslow Radiation Oncology, equipped with the best available technology and employing experienced staff from the state’s top oncology centers has been selected to train dosimetry students from Pitt Community College beginning in August 2012.

“The Medical Dosimetry Program is a one year diploma for ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologist) certified radiation therapists. My clinic will be providing the clinical education for the students," said Dr. Randy Blackburn, Director of Radiation Oncology at Onslow Memorial Hospital (OMH) in Jacksonville North Carolina. "This program was specifically designed to help dosimetry students get training in a real world environment.”

Program participants will receive hands on experience with treatment planning. Upon completion of the college program through Pitt Community College and the clinical education program students will receive a diploma in Medical Dosimetry. Graduates will be able to apply to the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB) to sit for a national certification.

The program at Onslow Radiation Oncology is limited to one participant under the mentoring, guidance and supervision of Dr. Blackburn. Dr. Blackburn, a radiation oncologist, serves as a clinical professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at ECU and is also the Director of Radiation Oncology at Onslow Memorial Hospital (OMH) in Jacksonville, North Carolina. He has nearly 25 years of experience as a radiation oncologist and anesthesiologist/pain medicine specialist.
