Interfaith service organization, Muslim Girl Scouts and local volunteers make the Muslim holiday of Eid Al Fitr great for all.

July 3, 2012 - PRLog -- The National Eid Toy and Gift Drive 2012 will officially begin July 12.  Collection boxes have been placed by the Thaakat Foundation and many other volunteers in metro Atlanta. These collection boxes are located at local businesses and places of worship in and outside of the Islamic community.

This year the drop off locations are:  Masjid Omar, 955 Harbin Rd., Lilburn, GA open from 5 am-10 pm daily for prayers, The Mu’shallah on Old Peachtree Rd. in Suwanee open 30 minutes before each prayer each day, the Baitul Salaam office located at 675 Village Square Dr., Stone Mountain, GA 30083 open Mondays 1 pm-4 pm, Tuesdays and Wednesdays 11 am- 3pm, Marie’s Seafood, 2106 Candler Rd., Decatur open 11 am-9 pm Tuesday-Saturday and Maidah: Atlanta Food Consortium, 2720 Sylvan Rd. SW, East Point, GA 30344 open for donations Tuesday-Saturday 4 pm-8 pm. We except monetary donations, toys and gifts appropriate for children babies-age 16. We request that no toys or gifts that look like real guns or knives be donated. We also ask that only G-Rated DVDs, games and music be donated. Educational toys and books make great gifts.

This is the fourth annual drive. The National Eid Toy and Gift Drive was started to ensure that children from low income homes in the Islamic community and children who receive childcare services from Muslim owned/managed daycare facilities who receive government funding to supplement their fees are given toys and gifts during the celebration that begins immediately following the 29 or 30 days of the Ramadan fast. Many parents of non-Muslim children who receive toys during this time put them away for their Christmas and other holiday celebrations.

The drive also ships toys to Muslim families at military bases and isolated locations where there may not be an Islamic community nearby. This year the drive will ship toys/gifts to Ghana to ensure that 50 orphan children who were adopted last Ramadan by the organization receive toys and gifts for Eid Al Fitr (recurring days of happiness).

This year we have four outstanding sponsors:

Maidah:Atlanta Food Consortium a local non-profit variety retail store has joined the sponsors of the National Eid Toy and Gift Drive 2012. This retail establishment sells food, clothing, cleaning supplies, designer cologne sets and other merchandise. Adjacent to Restaurant Ikhlas at 2720 Sylvan Rd. SW in East Point, GA the business also serves as the drop off point for monetary and in-kind donations to the Baitul Salaam Network, Inc. Abdul H. Abdullah is the manager call him at (404) 932-8339 for updates on the daily specials and new merchandise.

Mikal Akhtab a long time supporter of the Baitul Salaam Network, Inc., a distributor of Ardysslife.com located online at ardysslife.com/mikals and business owner in Newnan, GA has also committed to sponsor this years drive. Mr. Akhtab is well known for his community activism and philanthropy. He supports many charities in the city of Newnan and in the Islamic community nationwide.

MuskStoreGA located online at www.muskstore.com is an international company that sells exotic fragrances from many parts of the world at very competitive prices. Many of the scents sold by the company are very unique and rare. MuskStoreGA sells to those in the trade and direct to retail consumers. The company has been raising money for the Baitul Salaam Network since January of this year and sponsored the International Purple Hijab Day 2012 that was held at the Atlanta Masjid in February.

ByNadiyaJewels a mail order hand crafted jewelry design firm located on Facebook sells unique and high quality artistic jewelry for women. Some of the most exquisite crystal and hand crafted beads are used in its designs. The company designs earrings, bracelets and very long necklaces especially designed to go over what is called hijab (Muslim headscarf worn by many Muslim women). This company also raises money for the Baitul Salaam Network, Inc. and co-sponsored the International Purple Hijab Day 2012 this past February that was held in Atlanta at the Atlanta Masjid of Al-Islam.

The addition of the Thaakat Foundation a service group that focuses on bringing people together from all races and religions has greatly added to our drive. We have returning this year the Muslim Girl Scouts Troop 10584 who meet at the Risala Institute where our office is located, the Girl’s Volleyball Team who practice at Masjid Omar and Malaja Owens who assist with collection box decorations and placement.

Our monetary fundraising goal for the drive this year is $1,000. We plan to serve 250 to 300 outside of metro Atlanta and another 150 to 200 in metro Atlanta and the state of Georgia.
