Tropical Daze Showcases Beach Music and Family Fun July 21 and 22

The two-day festival features plenty of tropical entertainment, food and more than 75 tropical-themed vendors. A free children's activity area with hands-on games and arts and crafts is perfect for families with young children.

July 2, 2012 - PRLog -- THOUSAND OAKS, CALIF.--Enjoy live surf, Caribbean, reggae and island music at the 4th Annual Tropical Daze Summer Music Festival, July 21 and 22 at the Thousand Oaks Community Park (2525 Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks). The two-day festival features plenty of tropical entertainment, food and more than 75 tropical-themed vendors. A free children's activity area with hands-on games and arts and crafts is perfect for families with young children.

   The Saturday entertainment lineup begins with Tropical Beat (Jamaican steel drums) at 11:15 a.m. and again at 12:15 p.m. Burkhart (island rock) performs at 1:30 p.m., Paul Johnson (surf) at 2:45 p.m. followed by Island Rhythms (Caribbean) at 4:15 p.m.

   Sunday, Kua'ana (Hawaiian sounds) takes the stage at 11:10 a.m. and noon followed at 1:00 p.m. by Yoki Daiko (taiko drums). Surfin' Safari, a Beach Boys tribute band, will perform in celebration of the Beach Boys' 50th anniversary at 2:15 p.m. Wrapping things up will be Coconut Telegraph (a tribute to Jimmy Buffet) at 4:00 p.m. and again at 5:00 p.m.

   "Tropical Daze is a laid-back weekend for those who just want to come and enjoy great music and for families looking for fun and positive experiences for their kids," says Randy Strong, a Tropical Daze organizer.

   Net proceeds from Tropical Daze will benefit First 5/Conejo Valley Neighborhood for Learning (CV NfL) and its efforts to prepare children ages 0 to five for school and encourage family involvement. It offers child and parenting classes at six sites throughout the Conejo Valley. CV NfL's activity area at Tropical Daze will feature bubbles, hula-hoops and climbing area especially designed for preschoolers. Conejo Recreation and Park District (CRPD) will have its own area of hands-on activities.     

   For the third year, exotic birds, including macaws, cockatoos, parakeets, Kookaburras, cockatiels, soft bills and peacocks, will be on display from The Bird Experience. The Reptile Family
will give festival-goers an up close and personal look at snakes, lizards, turtles and much more during Tropical Daze. A story time reading area and martial arts exhibitions are also in store.

   After a one-year absence, an all-new luau and tropical feast is again part of the Tropical Daze. The luau will be held Saturday evening, July 21 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Tropical Daze main stage. Tupua Productions, with its graceful hula dancers, Samoan fire dancers and Tahitian drummers, will bring the tales and legends of the Polynesian islands to life.

   Luau-goers will enjoy ukulele music while tasting a variety of hors d'oeuvres. The evening's buffet will be catered by Famous Dave's, serving Hawaiian dishes normally only available at its Maui restaurant.      
   Tropical Daze is presented in collaboration with the Conejo Recreation & Park District, the City of Thousand Oaks and the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce.

   Tropical Daze hours are 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., both days. Admission is $5. Kids five and under are free. Luau admission is $38 per person, $48 for VIP seating. Tickets can be purchased in advance. No tickets will be sold at the door.
