June 30, 2012 - PRLog -- Phoenix, Ariz. - Colorado’s High Park fire began with a lightning strike on June 9. Over the course of the next 21 days it killed one person and incinerated 259 homes over an 82,000-acre area to the west of Fort Collins. For a short time it was the most destructive wildfire in Colorado history, until the Waldo Canyon fire near Colorado Springs began on June 22. That fire has been burning for more than a week and is still only 30% contained. Two are confirmed dead and more than 347 homes and a fire station have been destroyed by its flames. More than 30,000 had to be evacuated from their homes. Those are just the two largest of 8 wildfires ravaging the state of Colorado. With thousands now permanently homeless, singer/songwriter Scott Helmer is re-routing his Support YOUR Cause Tour 2012-2013 to help fire victims struggling in this surreal, post-apocalyptic scene. “My tour is all about helping the groups that provide real assistance to people when they need it most, and Colorado needs to be at the top of the list right now.”

Helmer kicks off this important new leg of his tour with a show on July 4 at the Derailed Saloon in Durango, CO, itself the site of the Stateline wildfire that has burned more than 80 acres. Located at 725 Main Avenue, the Derailed Saloon will feature Helmer at 6 PM on Independence Day. Owner Todd Gibson is eager to do what he can. “Everyone here at the Derailed Saloon wants to help. We’re going to have great food and Scott’s great music and we’re going to collect donations for the fire victims. It’s the least we can do.” Although there are many items that families will need, the best way to support fire victims is with money that will go to the organizations providing the needed assistance.

The Colorado wildfire leg of Helmer’s tour will wrap up on July 13 with a show at 5 PM at the Bierwerks Brewery located at 121 East Midland Avenue in Woodland Park. He’ll be adding as many shows as possible between July 4 and July 13 throughout the area affected by the fires. Admission to all shows will be free in order to encourage monetary donations to support wildfire victims. For the latest schedule of dates, check Helmer’s  website, http://www.scotthelmer.com or his facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/ScottHelmerMusic

Helmer’s Support YOUR Cause Tour 2012-2013 is inspired by the hard knocks experienced in his own life. “I know what it’s like to hit hard times. In the last recession, I ended up losing everything, including my business and my family,” said Helmer. “There are just going to be times when people, myself included, need a little help to get back on their feet. They need access to the lifeline that so many great organizations offer. But those groups need our support."

Helmer’s debut album, Wake Me When It’s Over, scheduled for release on August 1, 2012, will be made available for free through his website to anyone who donates at least $5 towards the cause of their choice. A free download of the first track, Time To Say Goodbye is available now at www.scotthelmer.com/music. The album was produced at the Waterfront Studios of legendary, multiple Grammy award winning producer Henry Hirsch in Hudson, New York. Described as a contagious, radio-friendly blend of rock and pop that also appeals to country and Americana fans, Wake Me When It’s Over is a collection of songs that describe journeys of pain and loss, but that ultimately point towards a pathway of hope.

The Support YOUR Cause Tour 2012-2013 features solo acoustic performances of songs from Wake Me When It’s Over along with covers of Scott’s favorite rock and country songs. After the wildfire shows the tour continues in the Southwest and on to KS, ID, IL and NY.
