Recipients Makana Agcaoili of Pahoa High School and Kaitlin Tavares, of Kamehameha Schools will be attending UH Manoa in September where Makana plans on studying genetic engineering and Kaitlin will be majoring in Chemistry. Kendra Fujioka, a Hilo High School graduate, will attend UH Hilo to earn her biology degree then plans to continue to pursue masters degree in Pathology.
Orion Paye and Shiloh Castro, Hawaii Community College students were selected to receive $750 “Building Future Builders” scholarships toward their second-year in the Carpentry program.
Applications for 2013 scholarships will be available in January.
Since starting out 90 years ago as a small Hilo lumber mill, HPM Building Supply has grown to include three full-service building supply centers and four lumber yards on the Big Island. The company provides materials statewide with sales and lumberyard in the Campbell Industrial Park on Oahu and in Lawai, Kauai. HPM also manufactures pre-engineered trusses, wall panels, metal roofing, metal framing components and pre-hung doors, and treats its own lumber. The company is 100-percent owned by its employees.
