The CLASSY Awards is the largest philanthropic awards ceremony in the United States, with nearly 3,000 nominations annually since its inception in 2009. The CLASSY Award recognizes the most outstanding achievements by charities, businesses and individuals nationwide. CLASSY Awards winners will be announced during the 4th Annual CLASSY Awards show on September 21-22, 2012 in San Diego, California.
Birthing Project USA, led by Founder, Executive Director and Ashoka Fellow, Kathryn Hall-Trujillo, MPH and a committed team of board members, staff and volunteers has created and taken to scale a simple model of improving birth outcomes by using volunteer “Sisterfriends”
On being nominated for the award, “I can see a world where no woman has to die giving birth for lack of $5 worth of supplies and I am hopeful that our moment of fame, through the CLASSY Awards nomination, will inform and inspire more people to join us in sponsoring these lifesaving kits", said Ms. Hall-Trujillo as she is planning to leverage this recognition to reach their goal of sponsoring 50,000 kits by the end of this year.

The Birthing Project USA mission is to assist local communities in improving their health status by addressing the systemic causes of their lack of well-being.
