Emergency Expert Shares Free Ideas to Improve Emergency Response

June 28, 2012 - PRLog -- Rick Tobin, the highly-respected President and CEO of TAO Emergency Management Consulting, recently released the first four of an extensive series of free, brief, helpful videos on YouTube. Rick said, “After decades in the profession of protecting the public, government organizations, businesses and non-profits, I felt it was time to give back and to share some of the wisdom I’ve gleaned during my extensive career.”

The videos are open to anyone and do not feature anything that Rick Tobin is selling from his own company. The series covers a wide variety of topics including water purification during disasters, the use of low-cost devices to increase emergency response efficiency, and a host of other ideas from free software he developed for elected officials, called Fulcrum, to advice on sheltering animals directly with people in large-scale evacuations.

“This is a tough time for emergency management budgets,” Rick noted, “especially for local governments as federal grants decline in size and number. No one has extra money to make major improvements. My intention is to promote small changes, with little or no cost, that can make a difference in the outcomes when disasters do strike.”

Rick’s experience includes work across the United States and actual experience in disasters ranging from floods, wildfires, earthquakes, tornadoes, severe storms, drought, hazardous materials events, blizzards, hurricanes, terrorist acts, and even radiological material events. He has also worked in the field and in emergency facilities before, during, and after disasters. Rick emphasized, “Emergency managers are practical people. They see miracle promises with big bucks attached almost everyday. I’m hoping these little ideas will appeal to those tired of the giant promises that often end up causing additional problems.”
