Milwaukee’s Next Rising Theatrical Star Competes For Tyler Perry’s Talent Search

Recently, nationally known writer and director, Tyler Perry, opened a Talent Search Competition and Milwaukee’s own Jodine Basterash has taken a step of faith and submitted her 3 minute promotional video for the competition.

June 28, 2012 - PRLog -- The Top 10 videos with the highest votes from the public will be submitted to Tyler Perry to make a selection for the winner to receive a walk on role in one of his upcoming stage plays, movies or television sitcoms. Voting ends Friday, June 29th, and Jodine has already made it to the “Most Popular” video tab on the contest’s website within 3 days of video submission. Her only wish with this contest is for God to have His way in her life in His proper timing. She is grateful for the level of exposure she is receiving.
“Truly, I am very excited each and every day about new prospects and I know that every day brings new opportunities for me to be better than yesterday,” Jodine said.

Often called the ‘Halle Berry of Milwaukee’, Jodine Basterash plans on bringing additional exposure to Milwaukee talent in theater. After being a 12 year domestic violence survivor, 3 time rape survivor starting at the age of 10 years old, and a troubled childhood, Jodine decided it was time to let go and live this next phase in her life. At the beginning of 2011, instead of setting New Years resolutions, she made herself a continuous goal, to let go of whatever makes her stop. She saw a casting call on Facebook regarding a stage play about growing up as a fatherless child and considering she could relate to the story line as part of her personal testimony, she decided to audition and landed the lead role. Since her acting debut in 2011, she has led lead roles in four stage plays: “No Daddy”, “Picking Up the Broken Pieces”, “Sassy Mamas”, and “When A Father Prays”.

When Jodine landed the lead role with Hansberry-Sands, a 30 year old theater company, as Wilhemina Sorenson, she knew then that God was preparing her. After months of excruciating long hours of sweat and tears of character and actor development for the role, she was determined and knew that God was up to something.  “The director, Willie AbNey, saw something in me and took me under his wing. He has a very serious no nonsense style of directing and is very passionate about his work. His rehearsals are more like an actor’s boot camp from hell. But I was determined to pass the test.” After months of pressure and hard work to make sure she represented not only herself, but the company well, Jodine did just that and received the following words of gratitude the night of the opening performance from the director, “Well done.”

Going forward, Jodine said her plans are like a “dream.” ‘A dream is just an unplanned goal put into action.’ “I am a very optimistic person who lives life to the fullest cherishing each time spent with my family and friends. I just want to fulfill God’s plan for my life with who He has molded me to become. I believe my testimonies have prepared me for such a time as this,” she said.

“I am always striving to grow on all levels and believe in general, when you stop learning, you stop growing. In conclusion, my time is in God’s hand,” Jodine said, adding that she will continue to believe in God for the best in the entertainment industry in the years ahead. She plans to make her family, friends, and fans proud of each talent God has given her.

Jodine is seeking support from her Milwaukee family to vote for her by visiting her website, www.JodineBasterash.com, click on the link on the homepage to be directed to her contest promotional video. In the bottom left corner of the YouTube video is a heart with the words “VOTE FOR THIS” that you will click on.
