Andrew Resignato, Candidate For District 5 City Supervisor Says, “We Can Do Better!”

Candidate Challenges Opponents to Join him in Eschewing Door Hangers by Creating More Functional, Cleaner Campaign Collateral
By: Committee to Elect Resignato

June 28, 2012 - PRLog -- San Francisco, CA/June 28, 2012 /Committee to Elect Resignato – Andrew “Ellard” Resignato, candidate for District 5 City Supervisor, today issued a challenge to his fellow candidates.  “Our campaign has made a commitment to the people of District 5 to reduce the environmental impact of traditional political campaigning by eschewing the use of door hangers and other wasteful political promotional materials that cannot be repurposed for productive use.  I believe that we can do better, and I hope my fellow candidates will join me in this commitment to our district and environment.”

Resignato, a newcomer to the San Francisco political scene, styles himself an independent, pragmatic, progressive in his platform and his approach to running for office, promising an innovative and unorthodox campaign.  He believes that the use of door hangers is antiquated in a time when more environmentally friendly means of promotion, like social media, video, and email, are available.  The Committee to Elect Resignato cited three core reasons for making this commitment:

•   Political door hangers make residents complicit in the creation of waste and they do not inform people in a meaningful way about the issues.

•   Door hangers perpetuate paper pollution in a digital age where we can reach people in useful ways that do not end up as garbage on our streets and in our foyers.

•   In a crowded field of 11 candidates it is more important than ever for the candidates themselves to run campaigns that are cleaner for the city and the environment.

“I am running for City Supervisor because I love this city and my district. I am passionate about listening to the people of District 5 about issues that concern them and many tell me that they would like to see cleaner streets. We intend to set an example for how a campaign can create less pure garbage.  One example we are currently developing is a two-piece perforated post card with one half dedicated to our campaign information and the other a mailable postcard with an image created by a District 5 artist.”

Resignato is a native of Brooklyn, NY, the grandson of Italian, Ukrainian and Austrian-Jew immigrants.  He has enjoyed living in culturally diverse San Francisco for the past decade, half of that time in District 5.

As Director of the San Francisco Immunization Coalition (SFIC), and a former HIV/AIDS educator, Resignato is no stranger to public service.  He not only brings this experience to the table, but he also holds a Master’s Degree in Economics and is a working musician having recorded more than ten albums.  Resignato’s unique blend of public service experience, creativity, and practical economic skills distinguishes him from the other candidates.
