(MOUNT VERNON, NY) Innovative programs, a variety of wellness services, and a full range of both artistic and educational activities have identified The Wartburg Adult Care Community – located on its 34-acre campus in Mt. Vernon - as one of our country’s leading senior care facilities. On Friday, June 8th, its First Annual Summer Arts Festival was proof of it!
It was all part of The Wartburg’s award-winning Council for Creative Aging, which provides artistic opportunities – from dancing to singing to painting & drawing, and beyond – for self-expression, lifelong learning, self esteem, and perhaps most importantly, fun!
Resident members of The Wartburg Chorale were the featured performers of this exciting festival held at the historic Wartburg Chapel on its campus. The Chorale combined the choruses from its nursing home, assisted living and Adult Day Care. The residents have been practicing for the past several months with their Chorale instructor, Sun Young Chang, and entertained the residents, patients and community members with selections from South Pacific and other favorites like Moon River and My Funny Valentine.
According to Ann Frey, Director of Volunteers for The Wartburg, “We also had Damon Jackson lead a drumming circle with at least 50 people participating. The Chapel School Chorus lead by teacher George Heath from Bronxville also was there to sing for us. The Wartburg residents also have an Art Show currently on display in the lobby of the nursing home.”
Ms. Frey continued, “Our Creative Aging and Lifelong Learning program has been a big success and our residents are learning new things or enhancing talents that have been dormant for some time. It is never too late to learn new things and at The Wartburg our residents and registrants are prime examples of that.”
