First-time Author C. L. Gillmore Wins Two National Indie Excellence Awards HonorsSixth annual Los Angeles-based contest recognizes "Of Roots, Shoes & Rhymes" in first place for poetry and "Uncommon Bond" as romance category finalist
Gillmore won first place in the category of poetry for Of Roots, Shoes and Rhymes. Some of the poetry in this collection also appears in the novel Uncommon Bond, which received recognition as a finalist in the romance category. Uncommon Bond is the first of a two-part series about Rose and Jake, who marvel at the kind of love that only comes along twice in a modern lifetime: the first time in person, the second via technology. “I write to share the emotions, hopes and dreams of my generation, the post-World War II baby boomers who watched social media take over lives.” Gillmore says. “We're living and loving in longer life spans except we are pushing the equivalent of a magic button with each electronic message.” Gillmore encourages others in the 50-plus age bracket to take the plunge into romance fiction. “It’s fun and provides a way to express your creativity and thoughts on relationships.” Recognition from National Indie Excellence Awards puts Gillmore’s work above many other self-published books in terms of excellence in design, text and presentation. Gillmore recognizes the people whose support and encouragement contributed to her success: illustrator Kathryn Henneman; editor Mary L. Holden; book trailer production crew Jen Sawyer and Bryan Simcox; publicist Deborah L. Brown; mentor Jerry D. Simmons; and assistant Alana Roberts. This national award is open to all English language books including small presses, university presses, independent publishers and self-published authors. Works published in 2009, 2010 and 2011 were eligible for consideration. To contact C.L. Gillmore, email clgillmore@cox.net or visit http://clgillmore.com.
