June 27, 2012 - PRLog -- CULVER CITY, CA--  The SnapFocus Music Video Series is an event that offers hopeful music video directors the chance to show off their talent by filming professional artists on a lit soundstage with access to the latest camera technology. The event is being hosted by the camera retail and rental shop evs in Glendale with performances from artists by Atrium Music and equipment being provided by Midas Mount Camera Support Systems. Directors will submit a reel or music video sample to be voted on by peers, the top three getting to shoot several takes of one song with the provided artist and leave with their footage to cut into a video. Aspiring music video directors who would like to participate in the event should submit their demo reel or sample music video to the project creators at snapfocus@midasmount.com.

The SnapFocus music video series is the brainstorm of Josh Young from Atrium Music, Casey Goode at evs and Brandon David Cole of Midas Mount Camera Support Systems. “I invited filmmakers out to the evs soundstage to demo our new SnapFocus follow focus system,” says Cole “and Josh suggested that he could bring a few of the artists from Atrium to give the filmmakers something to shoot. Casey kind of turned it into an event where we were filming these one-take music videos with our DSLR SnapFocus system and we realized what a great opportunity it would be for young directors to build their demo reel. It’s the kind of opportunity I would have killed for when I left NYU film school.”

The SnapFocus is a revolutionary new follow focus system invented by Cole for his Midas Mount brand that was launched on Kickstarter several weeks ago. The shoulder rig DSLR follow focus device allows filmmakers to pull of Hollywood production value as a one-man-band filmmaker. With focus control at the grip level of a DSLR rig, filmmakers can achieve smooth shots with a shallow depth-of-field characteristic of most music videos. The Kickstarter project blew past it’s $20,000 goal in a few days, has been backed by ‘Lost’ Co-Creator JJ Abrams, ‘Horton Hears a Who’ Director Jimmy Hayward, DSLR filmmaker Philip Bloom and ends June 28th. “This is a great tool for music video directors.” says Goode, “And a huge opportunity for them to put a professional piece on their reel, to shoot on a soundstage and use the latest gear they might not otherwise have access to.”
