#SocialMadness is based on a scoring algorithm that tracks Facebook activity, Twitter followers, LinkedIn connections and votes for companies on the competition’s official tally page. These metrics are then tabulated and used to measure overall social media output. Companies are ranked according to these measurements.

In the first round, companies vied for playoff contention by encouraging social media interaction from fans and followers. In the second round, companies face off head-to-head in individual bracketed competition in which the high seeds face the low seeds for the next month.
