NY Jets Marcus Dixon Joins A Young Mother's D.R.E.A.M.

June 27, 2012 - PRLog -- On Thursday June 28th, A Young Mother's D.R.E.A.M. is hosting Helping Young Moms Defy the Odds , Scholarship Awards ceremony at the Bronx Museum of the Arts Museum from 5:30-8pm. The event is co-hosted by Assemblywoman Vanessa L Gibson of the Bronx and the keynote address will be given by NY Jets player Marcus Dixon, who will share how he has defied the odds.

A Young Mother's D.R.E.A.M. is a 501c3 non profit based in Brooklyn NY. They offer a mentoring program that pairs young mothers 16-23 with women who were teen moms, but defied the odds and completed their education. They provide empowerment workshops for young mothers on a monthly basis that help improve soft skills including parenting, financial literacy and etiquette. In an effort to address teen pregnancy prevention A Young Mother's D.R.E.A.M. hosts a weekly radio show, No Girl Left Behind, with teen co-hosts to discuss the issues that teen girls are facing daily.

During the scholarship event, there will be a panel discussion moderated by DeNora Getachew Esq, with representatives from the following organizations: Big Brothers, Big Sisters, Lyfe, DYCD, Inwood House and Mentoring USA. They will discuss the "Barriers to Education for Young Moms". The discussion will be followed by an address by NY Jets player Marcus Dixon and the distribution of 7 scholarships.
