Young People Get Ready with Central Coast Community College

Local young people can gain the skills and confidence to get ahead with a new work and life skills program at Central Coast Community College this July.

June 26, 2012 - PRLog -- The funded program, called GET READY, will support learners between 15 and 24 years of age to access pathways to further education or employment in just nine weeks. It encompasses lessons in pathways research, computer skills, literacy, resume preparation and first aid.

The College’s Executive Director, Mallory Dale said the program provides learning options for young people with high literacy needs, those who have left school early due to factors within the school or life circumstances, and those returning to education after a few years out of the school system.

“GET READY is a positive and gentle way for these young people to re-engage with learning so they can reach their full potential.

“As a foundation program, GET READY will provide learners with the self-confidence and study skills needed to succeed at higher levels of education and in the workforce,” she said.

Ms Dale added the flexibility of the GET READY program and high staff/student ratio offers young people a learning experience not able to be produced in the conventional schooling system.

“We understand the ‘one size fits all’ approach to learning doesn’t always work, so each learner will receive individual support to help identify their personal learning and employment goals.

“A personalised training program will be developed for each learner, which includes mentoring and one-one one training where required,” said Ms Dale.

Central Coast Community College has previously provided young people with funded learning opportunities in beauty therapy and stand-alone literacy classes.

“The College is excited to provide another option for the diverse needs and aspirations of young people on the Coast,” Ms Dale said. `

Enrolments for GET READY are currently being taken. The program begins on Monday 23 July.
