Why Mitt Romney Hates the Chevy Volt

Chevrolet is ecstatic about  record sales of its Chevy Volt hybrid electric plug-in car in so much so it is rumored General Motors will double production of the Volt at the Detroit Hamtramck plant said insiders of the United Auto Workers. “They’re adding a week of production back in,” said Don LaForest, the chairman of the UAW’s bargaining committee at the Detroit Hamtramck plant, where the Volt is manufactured, in a recent interview.

The Volt sold a record 2,289 units in March, giving employees a reason to celebrate and prompting one to remark “America finally gets it…What good is a car you can’t afford to drive? Many purchasers of the Volt report they visit the gas station only once a month or every other month.

It was reported by national news broadcasters that many at the plant were “angered by the verbal attacks on the American-made car by Republican Presidential candidates Mitt Romney “ Since that time “Romney has had to eat his words which is becoming a daily thing for him” one auto worker stated.

“Anybody who’s been in a Volt knows it’s not a boondoggle, they know it’s for real,” I don’t think Newt or Mitt have said a single negative thing about the Nissan Leaf,” (the Volt’s Japanese competitor).

“They’re attacking our car to get at the President,” LaForest told TPM an online blog. “But our car is going to change the way America does business. It’s a breath of fresh air.” The Zipcar company has added the volt to its Chicago chain and the Volt was just listed as among America’s top 90 percent resale valued cars. According to the June edition of the NADA Official Used Car Guide, the  Nissan Leaf had an average trade-in value of $23,975 which is an impressive 95 percent of its sticker price of $25,280 after the $7,500 federal tax credit. The 2011 Volt had an average trade-in value of $29,325 which is about 90 percent of its $32,780 sticker price after the same federal tax credit. According to the manufacturers
”Volt is unique among electric vehicles because you have 2 sources of energy electric and gas that allows you to travel up to 375 miles on one tank of gas. Volt allows you to drive on electricity alone, gas alone or both. Volt is designed to travel long distances up to 100 miles an hour on EV (Electric power) and switch to gas to recharge the battery when it is low which adds hundreds more miles.

The Leaf is fully electric with up to a 100-mile range on its 24-kilowatt-hour battery. The Volt's battery is 16-kilowatt hours and its range is 40 miles on pure battery, but once that's done, it can go for another 300 miles on a charge generated by a gas-powered generator. Charge times are different, too, according to an Associated Press comparison. The Leaf requires eight hours while the Volt only needs four hours on a 220-volt outlet. The warranties are identical: eight-years or 100,000 miles.
Price: The base prices for the vehicles are $32,780 for the Chevy Volt is $41,000 with a federal tax credit factored in (up to $7,500), the Volt will cost you $33,500.). A three-year lease is $350 for the Volt, the Volt requires $2,500 down compared Romney who in 2008 said ”Let Detroit go bankrupt…” I guess his every town bus tour means every town except Detroit, but let’s take a look at his vision of the future of American Automobiles. Republican Mitt Romney told the Detroit News, that if he's elected president, he would make sure the government sells its stake in General Motors — even if it's for a loss. Romney says President Obama is delaying the sale to avoid an embarrassing loss to taxpayers. A White House spokesman said Romney isn't credible on the auto industry since he opposed the bailout that rescued GM and Chrysler. “He has shot himself in the foot in Michigan,” former Michigan governor Jennifer Granholm (D) said in a recent interview. “For him to have opposed it is offensive…even more offensive about it is he comes from an auto family … he stabbed us in the back when we were on our knees and he wrote that op-ed. It was on everybody’s lips – conservatives, moderates, Democrats.I can’t see people forgiving him.” In his defense Mitt stated in June2012 Detroit News, that he had a clarification to make: “just because he supported the companies going bankrupt doesn’t mean he opposed the government helping them out after the bankruptcy process was underway. “ What a guy!”
It seems that Romney should to go after President Obama instead of the Volt as long as people avoid the relevant questions like:
Have your taxes gone up? No
Have your guns been taken away? No
Has the stock market gone down from the 6,000 points Bush left it at? (No, it has more than doubled)
Are the terrorists running wild and winning? (Nope, Bin Laden is dead and a whole bunch of other leaders, and the few terrorists that there were were caught. And we are also done with Iraq)
As long as Americans don’t look at how Obama has helped the country Romney has a shot at outsourcing jobs and firing some more elderly people in the future.
