Gungroo Launches Safe Web Presence for Kids

June 26, 2012 - PRLog -- Bangalore, 26th June, 2012 – Gungroo, the world’s first safe web presence for kids, has announced the launch of its services. Founded in April of this year, Gungroo had been running a private trial of its product since. The service, though at an Alpha stage, is now open to any family that registers.

The company was founded by Dinker Charak, who was previously responsible for setting up Jivox’s Premium Ad Network and managing India operations. Before that he has worked at Wind River (acquired by Intel), Fermilab (a US DoE Particle Physics Research Lab) and worked on development of Large Hadron Collider at CERN.

“Gungroo aims to be the safe online presence for a kid,” said Dinker Charak, Founder and CEO at Gungroo. “Facebook, Google Plus, Skout and other social destinations were not designed for users of ages 6-15 years. The recent concern about privacy and safety highlight need for a social destination built from the ground up for kids. And it has to be done in a way that parental controls do not put off the kids.”

“When someone signs up on Gungroo, they get to be managers of their family and create a private social network,” he continued. “A family manager sets up a kid’s account and invites other family members. This way no univited guest ever comes bothering the family or the kids. Using plug-ins for GMail, Facebook, etc., Gungroo enables kids to cross-post on various social sites and allows them to communicate with rest of the world. All this while the parents can filter out spam and disallow posts that can harm kids.”

“We have re-thought every aspect of the user expereince,” he added. “Example, instead of asking users to think up of complicated passwords and remember them, we ensure similar security by using two simple and short passwords. We are adding more engagement for kids and will take it beyond messaging.”

The firm raised an angel funding from leading technology entreprenuers and plans to seek  Seed/Series A funds in near future.
