Capitol Financial Solutions Salutes Volunteer Service

June 25, 2012 - PRLog -- Barbara Dyke, Executive Assistant at Capitol Financial Solutions, is recognized for fifteen years of diligent service to the firm and for her passionate volunteerism with Moss on the James, an organization focused on assisting charities and fostering an appreciation of the art of P. Buckley Moss.

Currently serving as President of Moss on the James, Dyke is focusing on expanding missions and growing the membership. “I think a willingness to help others makes each of us a better person and our country the best in the world. Life takes on more meaning and direction when we are involved and helping others. I think that life would be very empty and less meaningful if we only opened our hearts to family and friends,” said Dyke.

Dyke decided to get involved with Moss on the James after seeing the difference the chapter made for the local community. “I can’t give thousands of dollars to any cause, but I can help raise thousands of dollars working with my fellow chapter members,” said Dyke. Recently, Moss on the James raised $8,000 for cancer research at the Virginia Commonwealth University Massey Cancer Center. The Moss on the James Chapter holds an annual tea party that includes refreshments, silent auctions, and a festive display of silk floral arrangements in tea cups for the Massey Cancer Center Teacup Ministry that Moss on the James has supported for several years. Cancer patients cannot receive fresh flowers and the silk floral arrangements in teacups are given to cancer patients to brighten up their rooms.

In addition to the 2012 fundraiser for cancer research and the teacup ministry, Moss on the James has supported existing programs including Noah’s Children, Central Virginia’s only pediatric hospice and palliative care program, a scholarship and SmartBoard at The Riverside School, supported an equestrian therapy program in Williamsburg, VA, Ronald McDonald house, canine rescue programs, a hearing impaired program, the P. Buckley Moss Foundation for Children’s Education, and other various community organizations and charities.

Moss on the James is a caring organization that welcomes opportunities to support community non-profit groups and organizations.

“One of my favorite projects was raising funds for Noah’s Children. This is the first and only such program in the nation and its support to families with critically ill children is truly helping families. The founder, Dr. Bob Archuleta, is a great inspiration and treasure to our community. I received a warm feeling to know that I am part of an organization that cares and supports such wonderful missions,” said Dyke.  

Close to her side in the office at Capitol Financial Solutions and often with her at Moss on the James activities is her husband Norris Dyke, a Registered Representative celebrating 20 years of service to the Greater Richmond area this year. “Norris is a kind, quiet, and considerate man who loves his family, friends, and clients. He is always willing to help wherever he is needed and provides assistance with a smile and expression of joy. His mother, Opal Dyke, is a member of Moss on the James and enjoys the services activities that allowed her to share her talents and culinary skills. Moss on the James is a wonderful opportunity for husband-wife teams and also for older adults interested in staying active and forming new friendships,” said Dyke.
