June 22, 2012 - PRLog -- Elisa Contemporary Art presents Moments of Nature, a curated exhibit and pop-up gallery space in Piermont (NY). The exhibit opens on June 30, 2012.

In our latest exhibit, Moments of Nature, we're thrilled to present a solo exhibit of Los Angeles artist, Suzan Woodruff.  The exhibit takes place at a Piermont (NY) pop-up gallery located at The Yoga House.  The show will be on exhibit from June 30 through September 10th, 2012.

From an early age, Suzan Woodruff, a fourth generation native of Arizona, was imbued with a love and awe of the power of nature.  For Suzan, the act of painting is not simply about portraying the physical processes of nature, but actually reproducing them. She creates elegant abstractions that seem to capture the dynamism of natural phenomena from Turner-esque sunsets to sedate seascapes to turbulent tornadoes. Thinned acrylic pigments coursing across her surfaces clearly follow their own natural path creating rills, deltas, waves and eddies.  The results are voluptuous, sensual landscapes, cloudscapes, seascapes, dunescapes and all sorts of natural spaces − even bodyscapes.

Her creative tools include acrylic paint, water, light, space, evaporation, chaos, mediation and physics.  According to Suzan,
"I control the direction [of the paint] by spinning it, flipping it, tipping it, spraying it, using gravity. It looks like something made in nature, the same way you watch water from the ocean pull back sand with the waves, or when you look at the sky and see the clouds being pushed by wind."

She finds her inspirations in the forces of nature and the everchanging views - from the photos from the Hubble Telescope and new Satellite imagery to solar flares, Aurora Borealis and any pheromone in nature or science.  Her latest series includes works based on natural fractals.

Suzan's paintings blend Zen serenity, human passion and earthly sensuality, often evoking the work of Georgia O’Keefe, whom she great admires for her use of feminine and sexual imagery.

Suzan Woodruff’s work has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the US, Canada, Europe and Asia; and recently has been featured in solo and group exhibits in Santa Monica, San Francisco and Budapest, Hungary. She is a recipient of numerous awards and artist residencies including the Sanskriti Center for the Arts.  Her shows have been reviewed and featured in Art Ltd, Budapest Sun, Artweek, Huffington Post, White Hot, d’Art International and many other print and new media sites.

Suzan’s artwork has been collected in museums, corporate and private collections including the House of Saud, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, Todd Wagner, Ibrahim Alkazi (The Sepia Collection), Martin and Norma Stevens, Michael Korie; The Scottsdale Center for the Arts, The Sanskriti Foundation, AT&T, Sperry Rand, and SONY.
