PRLog - Jun. 29, 2012 - FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The 46807 Quality of Life Initiative hosted a luncheon Thursday, June 21st for area non-profit and faith-based organizations at The Summit on Rudisill Boulevard. The purpose of the luncheon was to share information and ideas, and to build relationships in order to improve the quality of life for residents of Fort Wayne's 46807 zip code. Discussions centered on partnerships and connections, community improvement efforts, and communication.

Also at the event, the 46807 Quality of Life Initiative announced grant awards, provided by JP Morgan Chase, to fund four projects whose aim is to improve quality of life in the area:
The A Home Maintenance Group was awarded $319 to create and distribute a resource guide for home owners. it includes recommendations for maintenance tasks, sources for home repair education, funding sources for home maintenance and suggestions regarding where to find local contractors and artisans for specialty repair work.
Packard Area Planning Alliance (PAPA) received $750 to support neighborhood gatherings in the summer and fall along Fairfield Avenue between Rudisill Boulevard and Creighton Avenue. They will organize three gatherings for residents of 46807 neighborhoods:
The Historic Oakdale Neighborhood received $750 to support an event which presents ten historic neighborhood homes to the public. The purpose of the effort is to share the Oakdale neighborhood with others and promote 46807 as a whole.
C.O.P a Story was awarded $500 to support their story-telling program that's held monthly at The Friendly Fox on South Wayne Avenue. C.O.P. stands for Character, Object, and Place for those who wish to compose and share short stories based on prompts. The group's purpose is to foster a community of neighbors, support neighborhood business and empower participants in communication and social skills and awareness.
Story Writers Jam was awarded $250 to organize a monthly event at South Side High School. The goal of the group is to host events for students to compose, share and discuss their stories; to offer young adults the opportunity to share their views of the world; to empower students with the freedom and responsibility of offering their ideas in a public setting; and to support academic achievement.
Steering Committee members from The 46807 Quality of Life Initiative will continue to work on community engagement events and provide support to ongoing initiatives that the community has outlined in the Plan.
