Social Media Replaces Main Stream Media as Primary Source of News

A CW Fong & Associates' poll on the news consumption habits of Singaporeans shows that 63.2% of Singaporeans rely on the Internet as their primary source of news.

June 21, 2012 - PRLog -- As part of CW Fong & Associates' on-going research on the impact of social media on communications, CW Fong & Associates conducted a straw-poll on the news consumption habits of the average Singaporean.

The results of the straw-poll revealed that 63.2% of Singaporeans rely on the Internet as their primary source of news, 27.3% on Television, 13.2% on newspapers and (surprisingly) none on radio for their news.  The poll also revealed that 57.9% of Singaporeans check for news "a few times a day."

The main conclusions derived from this straw-poll are (a) social media's key role in communicating news making it an important component of any crisis communications plan; and (b) newspapers (while rated as the most credible platform for news) declining value proposition as a source for news and the need for them to reinvent themselves.

CW Fong & Associates is a Singapore-based boutique communications firm specializing in crisis communications in the era of social media.  For more information and discussions on communciations in the era of social media, visit us at http://cwfong.blogspot.com.
